"Imagine
going to a really good party where these two guys with a
guitar and a harmonica sing and play kickass blues all evening.
The only thing that could be better is if you had a recording
of it, right? Well, this is the recording. Tim Meyers recorded
Cooke and Green's playing on a minidisk recorder and sent
them a copy. When they heard it, they decided to issue it
on CD. There are typical party background noises - applause,
spontaneous shouts, etc. - but there's nothing lacking in
the recording quality. It sounds good, and the full excitement
of the moment comes through....These guys can play! Each
of the tracks is blues, but the variety is wide - from down-home
delta style, to an acoustic variation of big-city Chicago
blues." ---Victory Review, May 2000

"Collectively,
these five musicians are some of the finest and most professional
players in the Seattle area. For two evenings this summer
[1996], they gathered at Ballard's newest and finest addition
to the Blues scene, Bad Albert's Tap and Grill in Old Ballard.
The result of that meeting is this exceptional album. Although
there are no original tunes on this CD, one can't really
call this a 'cover' album. The creative arrangements and
presentation make each cut an 'original'....This is a great
CD for listening because these musicians are so accomplished
that you're almost mesmerized by the way they ply their
craft. But that doesn't mean some tunes don't make you want
to get up and dance. The phenomenal talent on the part of
all these great players is a gift indeed. I can't seem to
get this CD out of my player for any length of time. This
album belongs in the collection of every serious Blues lover."

"Curley
Cooke and Rod Cook need no introduction to the scene of
acoustic music. Their mastery of the guitar, as well as
musical composition and songwriting, has amazed audiences
in performances and club dates throughout the Northwest.
And their passionate regard for musical meaning and originality
is apparent in whatever song is being presented. This new
all-acoustic release, Double Cookin', is a musical
compilation of styles, standards and original material rarely
seen on one album. From the haunting blues standard "Sittin'
on Top of the World," to the down-home original "Will They
Let Me Play the Blues in Heaven," Rod and Curley present
a spirited and innovative collection. Hopefully, this is
only the first of many collaborations by these two gifted
musicians." ---Paul Pierce (from the CD liner
notes)
