Annette Loren Taborn
Vocalist/Harmonica/Blues in Schools

For over 20 years, Annette Taborn has been a vocalist and Blues Harmonica player. She has played music around the mid-west from her hometown of Kalamazoo Michigan to Chicago, overseas in the Netherlands, down South in Memphis and Mississippi, out west in Los Angeles and now in the Pacific Northwest where she lives in Seattle, Washington. In 1989 Annette co-hosted the Missias' Saturday night Blues Jan, the forerunner of a dynamic blues scene in Southwest Michigan, later she produced numerous Blues shows in the area.

In 1994 she co-founded the Kalamazoo Valley Blues Association and served as Director of the Kalamazoo Blues Festival it's first two years. Annette began teaching "Blues in Schools" in 1994, with the mission to enhance young people's appreciation and respect for the Blues and to use Blues music as a tool to promote racial harmony through diversity. The program has reached thousands of students from kindergarten through high school, and in juvenile homes and schools for the emotionally impaired. Annette has taught Blues in Schools in Michigan, in Chicago working with the International House of Blues Foundation "Blues Schoolhouse Program" and in Los Angeles sponsored by the Southern California Blues Society. Annette is now working with the Pacific Northwest Blues in Schools program based in Seattle.

Besides being a talented vocalist and harmonica player, Annette has taught classes in "Women in Blues" at Kalamazoo College, and has studied at and been accredited by the Center for Southern Culture Studies at the University of Mississippi. She was instrumental in starting the Bonnie Raitt "Girls with Guitars" program, which provided instruments and guitar, lessons to children at the Kalamazoo Boys and Girls Club.

Annette is currently playing in a duo/quartet with Curley Cooke a veteran of the early Steve Miller Band and in bands with other great musicians around the Pacific Northwest.
